AWE Club is now ONLINE and open to everyone with extra lessons in many subjects.
New students from all areas are welcome to join our experienced tutors for online courses and lessons for groups. These online group classes are available long term, not just during Coronavirus lockdown.
Please see fees below.
The same great AWE Club teachers. Experienced and Home Ed friendly.
KS3 and I/GCSE level for ages 11 to 16
AWE Online lessons are taught by the experienced tutors who have worked at AWE Club for many years and have helped numerous Home Educated students to succeed. Home Educating families from all areas are welcome to join AWE Club as our courses are now all available online.
- Has your current Home Education group or tutor currently stopped running?
- Do you live too far away to attend the AWE Club classes in Waltham Abbey?
- Does your child prefer to learn online?
- Would you like the opportunity to join us as we are now able to offer the same subjects with the same experienced teachers, but online, so making it accessible to all?
All our teachers are prepared to continue long term online for your children so even when we go back to ‘face to face’ classes at AWE Club at some point, we will be able to continue with the online lessons for your children too. I hope this gives you the peace of mind that we will do our very best to ensure your children are able to join with the prospect that it can be a long term arrangement, not just for a few weeks or months. This will be especially important for the GCSE level courses which run for two years.
DAYS, TIMES, FEES
Please note, it doesn’t matter what their actual age is you choose which Key Stage level they are working at, for example, you could have a 15 year old doing KS3 or a 10 year old doing GCSE. It’s their ability we teach to, not their age. They can opt for different levels for different subjects.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE LESSONS
IGCSE Specification Codes: Physics 4PH1. Chemistry 4CH0. Biology 4BI0
Mike is the science teacher, he uses an online classroom called Electa, Mike will send you an email with an invitation to join his classes from school-network.net. You need to follow the instructions he provides in order to have everything set up ready for the lessons. We follow the EDEXCEL syllabus and text books are required for IGCSE. The IGCSE courses are run continually and cover two years of the syllabus starting each September. Students can however join at any time and use any overlap lessons as revision or opt to catch up with any missed lessons. PLEASE CLICK HERE (opens in a new window) for the full course specification, details and ISBN numbers. KS3 does not require a textbook and is geared towards preparing students for EDEXCEL IGCSE Single sciences. Online science lessons will move to Fridays when lockdown ends.
KS3 – History, English, English Basic Skill Support, Latin Beginners:
Julia is the teacher for these subjects, she uses an online classroom called ZOOM. Julia will send you an email with the links to join her classes. You need to follow the instructions she provides in order to have everything set up ready for the first lessons. Julia will contact you with a time that she will text or call you to help you to set up your computer and test that everything works okay. Please note: for Latin a textbook is essential, ISBN 978-0-521-63543-1 Cambridge
Maths – KS3 and GCSE:
Dan is the Maths teacher, he uses the online classroom Zoom. Dan will email you instructions to join his classes.
Dan teaches general Maths topics not aimed at any one particular exam board. He will provide homework if students want it but it is not compulsory as we understand some children find homework too stressful.
Dan teaches the main topic areas that are guaranteed to be found in an exam and focuses particularly on areas students often find difficult and helps them to gain confidence in their abilities. Please note one hour of Maths a week is not usually enough for Home Educated students so it is assumed that the lessons are to supplement other Maths education. Not every aspect of each exam board syllabus will be covered. Some students opt for additional lessons nearer to exam times and Dan will try to help with areas they need extra help in. Dan uses worksheets that he makes himself. If parents need a recommendation for which text book is best these are the ones Dan would suggest.

Neil is the teacher, he uses Skype. Neil will email you instructions to join his classes. Creative writing is alternate weeks on Wednesdays. This class is only available during Coronavirus lockdown.
Course Description- The creative writing sessions will act as a writing laboratory. In these sessions we will be sharing, experimenting and commenting on our writing in a workshop format. We will be developing our writing of narrative fiction and finding our own voices as writers. These sessions will help learners to discover their own strategies to craft their talents as a writer of fiction. I will be responding as a facilitator to the unique needs of the group. Learners should expect to be writing and gathering ideas in between the sessions in order to get the most from them. Please note that these sessions will not focus on the technical skills of English such as spelling, grammar and punctuation. However, learners will understand how to structure writing with a clear beginning, middle and end. This is not an exam course. Students are welcome to continue after lockdown when we go back to face to face classes in Waltham Abbey if they are reasonably local.
